According to the literature, the use of Subtilisin Carlsberg for the enzymatic digestion of tissue is supposed to yield significantly higher findings of barbiturates, alkaline substances, and benzodiazepins than traditional methods. In the case of 11 liver specimens, however, a comparison with a modified acetone method (extraction by ultrasonics) did not lead to an improvement in the results, nor did it facilitate preparation of the specimens.
