Low-dose heparin (LDH) injected subcutaneously in a contralateral abdominal skin-fold seems to be responsible for the formation of wound hematomas in inguinal herniorrhaphy. There was a considerably lower percentage of wound hematomas when LDH was injected subcutaneously in the contralateral thigh instead of the contralateral abdominal skin-fold. The difference, however, was statistically not significant.
