[Dysplasia of the epithelium of the gastric mucosa].

A review of the literature on the spread, location, morphology, and fate of dysplasia of the gastric mucosa epithelium is presented. Dysplastic conditions of the gastric mucosa epithelium is presented. Dysplastic conditions of the gastric mucosa are noted to occur in all pre-cancer changes of the mucous membrane and to indicate a higher risk of adenocarcinoma development. The degree of this risk in relation to the severity of dysplasia has not yet been established, however. Only severe dysplasia has been found to be topographically associated with gastric carcinoma. Different classifications of dysplasias are presented. On the basis of the data from the literature and their own experience the authors recommend to use classification of dysplasia proposed in 1975 by Grundmann.
