An attempt is made to describe the action of sympathic, parasympathic and somatic innervation of the urinary bladder by means of a receptor model and to present the theoretical basis of a successful treatment of the neurogenic bladder. Radiographic and urodynamic examination of 15 children revealed that ephedrine was successful in improving or curing urinary incontinence in 12 cases with congenital or required neurogenic bladder. The requirements and limitations of a successful sympathomimetic treatment of the neurogenic incontinence are presented.
