Chemistry of carbamoyl disulfide protected derivatives of proline.

High-yield methods have been devised for the synthesis of a series of alkyl and aryldithiocarbonyl derivatives of the alpha-imino acid proline. The carbamoyl disulfide protecting groups were rapidly and quantitatively removed under a variety of reductive conditions, suggesting their potential value for orthogonal schemes of peptide synthesis.
