According to current concepts the treatment of malignant melanomas of the iris, uvea or choroid of the eye tends to be conservative. Removal of the eye is only indicated if the local complications cannot be controlled by medical means. The classification of malignant melanomas according to size may be a better indicator of prognosis and choice of treatment than cytological assessment alone.
