Computed tomography enables the direct visualization of presacral recurrences of their expansion and relations to adjoining organs. The signs and symptoms were described and discussed. The value of computed tomography was demonstrated by 23 patients with recurrences after resection of carcinomas of the rectum. There are problems in differentiating small tumor recurrences to scar tissue. Most of our recurrences were extensive.
