We evaluated a new compound of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) that effectively blocks radiation below 380 nm, while maintaining nearly ideal transmittance characteristics above this wavelength. Our in vitro studies demonstrated no toxicity from this compound. Comparisons in primate eyes showed the standard and ultraviolet (UV)-absorbing plastic to be equally well tolerated.
