Abstract

There are currently three educational routes for entering nursing practice, and all three routes provide eligibility to take state examinations for registered nurse licensure. The pros and cons of each of the types of nursing education programs--associate degree, diploma, and baccalaureate in nursing--are discussed. If the current system is retained, the graduates of the different programs must be clearly identified, since their education has prepared them for different levels of responsibility, and they must be employed in appropriate roles. There are options, however, to retaining this system: implement a dual entry system with the associate degree for entry into technical nursing practice and the baccalaureate for entry into professional nursing practice, or implement a single entry system with the baccalaureate as the prerequisite for entry into nursing practice.

目前有三种进入护理实践的教育途径，所有这三种途径都具备参加注册护士执照州级考试的资格。文中讨论了各类护理教育项目（护理学副学士学位、文凭课程和护理学学士学位）的优缺点。如果保留现行体系，不同项目的毕业生必须得到明确区分，因为他们所接受的教育使他们能够承担不同程度的责任，而且他们必须从事与之相适应的工作岗位。然而，除了保留这一体系外，还有其他选择：实施双轨入学制度，即护理学副学士学位用于进入技术护理实践领域，护理学学士学位用于进入专业护理实践领域；或者实施单轨入学制度，即以护理学学士学位作为进入护理实践的先决条件。
