In a retrospective analysis of 226 patients with ectopic pregnancy, 22% had been sterilized or were using contraceptives. Of the 168 parous women, only 57% had one or more normal pregnancies prior to the ectopic pregnancy. 30% have subsequently become pregnant (2--12 yr later), 8% have had a repeat ectopic pregnancy, and 16% have had a successful pregnancy.
