The effects 2-[(2-methoxy-4-methylsulfinyl)phenyl]-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (AR-L 115 BS) and isoprenaline on some hemodynamic parameters of a stable isolated heart preparation from guinea pigs were studied. In the ventricular myocardium, AR-L 115 BS potentiated the inotropic effect of isoprenaline (8 x 10(-10) mol/l) in a dose dependent manner. The influence of AR-L 115 BS on heart rate in the presence and absence of isoprenaline was rather small. The possible role of catecholamines in modifying the effect of AR-L 115 BS is emphasized.
