Large-surface transscleral freezing has been performed in severe proliferative diabetic retinopathy and recurrent vitreous haemorrhages. Out of 21 eyes visual acuity improved in 8, remained unchanged or diminished further in 13. Rapid clearing of the vitreous has been observed in one third of the patients.
