Abstract

Many of the currently used lens implants are iris fixated and change pupillary shape. Concomitant iris surgery and posterior synechiae can make evaluation of pupillary responses difficult in the implanted patient. Pupillary evaluation if critical to neuro-ophthalmic diagnosis, and the presence or absence of a Marcus Gunn pupil is the most common clinical entity likely to be evaluated in the age group of patients with intraocular lenses. A Marcus Gunn pupil can be diagnosed when only one pupil is functional.
