The problems of diagnosis and treatment of avascular malignant tumour of the kidney are discussed on the basis of 5 cases. Attention is drawn to the importance of arteriography and to the need for operative exposure. In view of the possibility of false diagnosis during operation examination by means of immediate histological examination is recommended. Puncture is considered to be obsolete because of the danger of tumour cell dissemination.
