Oral psoralen-ultraviolet A (PUVA) therapy is one of the most effective treatment methods available for psoriasis. The combination of psoralen and ultraviolet A radiation inhibits DNA synthesis. Its usefulness in treating other skin conditions such as mycosis fungoides and vitiligo is being explored. While PUVA seems relatively safe, long-term risks associated with this therapy are unclear. Special training and careful dosimetry are important.
