Two experiments are carried out in which stimulus size and exposure duration of verbal stimuli are shown to effect visual field advantages in a lexical decision task. More visually complex or briefer presentations are shown to be associated with LVF advantages supporting the hypothesis that the right hemisphere plays a role in visually analysing verbal stimuli. The stronger possibility, suggested by clinical data, that the right hemisphere can independently perform lexical decisions receives speculative rather than convincing support.
