The effects of 2.4-Dinitrophenol on the mechanical activity of Guinea-pig papillary muscles were studied. 1 x 10(-4) M DNP initially potentiated the contraction and subsequently suppressed the mechanical activity in about 12 min. During the negative inotropic phase a contracture was developed. All the effects were reversible.
