Mathematical relationships describing the delivery of drug to a target organ after intra-arterial, intravenous, and oral administration are presented. This discussion clearly demonstrates that administration into a blood vessel leading to the target organ often is superior to intravenous administration. However, this superiority is not clear from traditional plasma concentration monitoring data.
