In placentas of women with mid-trimenon abortions the authors observed numerous histomorphologic changes, most frequently uvular edemas, the narrowing and obstruction of blood vessel lumina, collagen sedimentation, uvular fibrosis, and a thrombus below the amnionic membrane. In most cases in one and the same placenta several histologic changes were observed. Changes in the placenta spoilt the living conditions of the fetus to such an extent that they led to its death and, consequently, to abortion.
