The imaginal discs of chironomid larvae infected with mermithid nematodes provided a useful model for the study of parasitic effects upon undifferentiated tissue. Specific aberrations concerning mitotic rate, cell death, organogenesis, cell pattern differentiation and cell differentiation are described and discussed.
