Oedipal equivalents in a clan culture: reflections on Navajo ways.

Patterns have emerged in anthropological and clinical work with Navajos which seem inconsistent with out present formulation of the Oedipus complex and its place in the emotional maturation process. This paper evolved out of an effort to reconcile psychoanalytic concepts with Navajo symptoms, experiences, feelings, and beliefs.
