Because of the poor survival rates among sick infants weighing less than 750 gm and because of the poor quality of life of surviving infants, a less aggressive approach seems appropriate. Obstetricians, pediatricians, and neonatologists must explain the risks and benefits of intensive care frankly and honestly to families and accept their own limitations.
