Sterilization reversal by macrosurgical tubal anastomosis.

A simple macrosurgical technique developed by the writer in 1974, and used specifically for the reversal of sterilization by tubal anastomosis, is presented. The technique has been employed where facilities have been no more sophisticated than those used for the original sterilization. In terms of intrauterine pregnancy, a success rate of 43% has been achieved from a series of 14 unselected patients who requested tubal reconstruction after sterilization. A plea is made for the employment of sterilizing techniques which cause minimal tubal damage, and thereby allow the greatest likelihood of success with any future reconstructive procedure.
