Disasters are characterized by a significant loss of human life, together with a substantial loss of property. The grimmest consequence is the identification of the victims, and this responsibility falls upon the law enforcement community. The identification process is the sole purpose of the FBI Disaster Squad and this humanitarian service is offered as a cost-free public service.
