As a result of the recent publication of a hypothesis concerning the possible fundamental role of hyaluronidase in tissue (2) it might be that hyaluronidase could have a better effect in the management of traumatic cerebral oedema than corticosteroids as an antagonist of this enzyme. An animal study of this subject will be discussed. Finally some general comments are made about the hypothesis with especial reference to cerebral cells in critical care medicine.
