The phenomenon of interference of one reflex with another was observed in dogs during performance of heterogeneous instrumental conditioned reflexes elicited in a stereotype order. When alimentary conditioned reflexes involving the right-leg movement, were elaborated before the defensive ones involving the left fore-leg movement, then manifestation of the second reflex was preceded by a movement with the right leg. When the elaboration of conditioned reflexes started with defensive reflexes, the opposite was observed: before performing the alimentary reflex, the dogs lifted first the left fore-leg connected with the defensive reflex, and then the right one. Inertia of the nervous mechanism underlying this phenomenon, is based on a tonic increase in the excitability of the corresponding structures.
在以固定顺序引发的不同种类的工具性条件反射过程中，观察到了狗身上一种反射对另一种反射的干扰现象。当涉及右腿运动的食物性条件反射在涉及左前腿运动的防御性条件反射之前形成时，那么在第二个反射表现出来之前会先出现右腿的运动。当条件反射的形成从防御性反射开始时，则观察到相反的情况：在执行食物性反射之前，狗先抬起与防御性反射相关的左前腿，然后再抬起右前腿。这种现象背后神经机制的惰性，是基于相应结构兴奋性的紧张性增加。
