In cats a short-lasting biochemical effect of the compressed air caused no changes in concentration of sodium, potassium or 17-ketosteroids in blood and urine. Through production of gas bubbles, concentration of potassium and sodium ions in plasma is reduced while their excretion increases. Disturbance of sodium and potassium metabolism in the human body as well as activity of suprarenal cortex depend on intensity of decompressive gas production.
