It was shown in experiments on male Wistar rats with experimental myocardial infarction that preliminary administration of potent and nontoxic anti-oxidants dibunol and oxi-p-6 prevents to a considerable degree damage to the cells of the heart muscle assessed according to the enzyme criterion, and reduces the area of necrosis and the disorders of cardiac contractile function. The administration of anti-oxidants to intact animals increases essentially the degree and rate of restoration of cardiac contractility in reoxygenation following the hypoxia period.
