In 78 workers aged 19--59, employed in foundry and forge, intestinal absorption was examined. The d-xylose test was performed twice--at the beginning and end of the work shift. The intestinal absorption of d-xylose was found to decrease at the end of the work--shift and varied with workers' age and work--load magnitude.
