The question whether an illness occurring after a stay in the tropics is tropical or not often arises in clinical practice. In seeking the answer, the following points in the patient's history are of particular importance: 1. Where has the patient been, and for how long? 2. When did the patient come home and when were the first symptoms noted? 3. What was the nature of his exposure during his stay? 4. What prophylactic measures were taken? The significance of the geographical history is illustrated by the example of South East Asia. The interval between the return home and appearance of the first symptoms is related to the course of tropical diseases, prepatency and survival time of parasites.
在临床实践中，经常会出现这样的问题：在热带地区停留后出现的疾病是否为热带病。在寻找答案时，患者病史中的以下几点尤为重要：1. 患者去过哪里，停留了多久？2. 患者何时回国，首次出现症状是何时？3. 患者停留期间接触的性质是什么？4. 采取了哪些预防措施？东南亚的例子说明了地理病史的重要性。回国与首次出现症状之间的间隔与热带疾病的病程、寄生虫的潜伏期和存活时间有关。
