[Ischemic colitis (author's transl)].

Based on the review and the clinicopathological analysis of two cases of ischemic colitis as well as on the literature the author calls attention to this not rare but today not adequately known disease which gives rise to ulcerative inflammation in advanced age in the lienal flexure of the colon. Diagnosis of the disease is of great practical importance because in mild transient cases surgery is not required. Should it, however, develop above a tumorous obstruction, it essentially influences the operational schedule. Comparing two cases histologically, the author observed to different stages of an identical pathological process. She considers the pathological picture to be characteristic and discusses the possibility of its differentiation from ulcerative colitis and from Crohn's disease.
