Abstract

During the continuous cultivation of typhoid bacteria in Lederberg's synthetic medium the specific rate of glucose and oxygen consumption was shown to differ, depending on the dilution rate, the initial concentration of glucose in the medium and on the oxygen level in the medium. At the same time the conditions ensuring the maximum assimilating properties of the culture did not coincide with the conditions of the maximum biomass production.
