In a prospective longitudinal study, we investigated all low-risk infants on five occasions up to the end of their first year of life. In the second part of the report, we present the developmental changes of spontaneous motility and straightening functions. The consideration of behavioural state is important for the outcome of neurological testing. The changes of spontaneous motility (intensity, speed and quantity of motions, startles, tremor, prehension ...) are sufficient parameters for developmental diagnosis. Some functions (goal directed arm-motion, prehension...) are correlated to environmental influences. The usual practice of developmental diagnosis is insufficiently directed to developmental processes in the CNS.
