In this article, the author investigates the development mechanism of oedema observed in chronic venous insufficiency. This oedema is of lymphatic origin and its characteristics vary according to whether the lymphatic vessels are normal or have deformed by inflammatory processes. From the therapeutic angle we emphasize the advantages of gentle massage as a physical decongestant.
