The excretion of medicaments and their metabolic products essentially takes place through kidneys and liver. In case of a functional disturbance of the kidneys in medicaments with considerable renal elimination a damming up of active substances develops. Therefore, with so-called normal doses considerable toxic injuries may appear. Possibly medicaments should be used, the renal elimination of which is only slight. Drugs with prevailing excretion via kidneys must be reduced according to the degree of the renal insufficiency. In case of a haemodialytic treatment on the other hand medicaments are removed from the body without control. On principle in renal insufficiency each unnecessary medicamentous treatment should be avoided and only controllable or in their elimination kinetics known medicaments should be used.
