The inflammatory process caused in the omentum of the guinea pig by the intraperitoneal injection of minced polyester threads is characterized by an increasing number of mononuclear and giant cells surrounding polyester fragments. Lymphocytes and plasma cells have been found to participate in the process when the animals are treated for longer times. The cells obtained from the peritoneal cavity have a large lysosomal apparatus as stained by acridine orange, although the colour is taken up to a lesser degree when the cells are in the presence of the polyester.
