Fifty patients suffering from stomach carcinoma and other non-malignant abdominal disorders, comprising the study group and the control group respectively, were subjected to simple saline lavage for obtaining exfoliated cells from the gastric mucosa. A positive cytological diagnosis was made in 40% cases of carcinoma stomach while the control group gave only 5% false postive results.
五十名分别患有胃癌和其他非恶性腹部疾病的患者，分别组成研究组和对照组，接受了简单的盐水灌洗以获取胃黏膜的脱落细胞。胃癌病例中有40%作出了阳性细胞学诊断，而对照组仅有5%的假阳性结果。
