There have been very marked changes in the number of women doctors who have come into the profession in this country in the past 40 years. They have faced problems because of society's preconceptions of their role as women. I previously reviewed their position in 1975 and 1986, and now take a look at areas where progress has been made, and also note whether there is still inequality and where women have still not achieved their full potential. I shall make some suggestions for improvement.
