Secondary infections and malignancies are responsible for the majority of deaths among AIDS patients. Medical imaging plays a significant role in the diagnosis and treatment of these pathologies. Many opportunistic infections and malignancies can be imaged with conventional radiography and fluoroscopy, sonography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and nuclear medicine studies. This article describes AIDS-related pathologies and discusses diagnostic imaging's role in their early detection and treatment.
