Basic cost analysis can improve in-service education.

When the director of a hospital's in-service education department analyzed basic cost data regarding his staff, he discovered an unnecessarily wide range of costs per student hour. The analysis changed his conception of the ideal educator, and he subsequently reorganized his department. The process he used is detailed herein.
