To study articular symptoms in relapsing polychondritis (RP) and their relationship to other clinical manifestations and prognosis.
Fourteen patients who met the diagnostic criteria proposed by Damiani and Levine for RP were studied. Clinical symptoms were recorded and laboratory and radiologic examinations were carried out. In one patient a synovial histology was obtained.
Twelve patients had joint symptoms affecting the peripheral joints (9), the chondrocostal junctions (5), or both sites together (2). Peripheral arthritis was the most frequent finding, affecting 6 patients, while peripheral arthralgia was the only articular manifestation in 3 patients. The development of joint symptoms (arthralgia, arthritis and costochondritis) was unrelated to the appearance of chondritis at other sites and no correlation was found between articular involvement and age at onset, duration of the disease, number of flares, or severity of the disease, either in terms of the number of organs involved or fatal outcome (p > 0.05). However, when articular symptoms were analysed separately arthritis was associated with a longer duration (50 months vs 30), more affected organs (4.5 vs 3.3) and a poorer prognosis compared with patients with arthralgias alone or chondrocostal symptoms.
Articular symptoms are common in RP but the presence of peripheral arthritis is associated with widespread disease and a poorer prognosis.
研究复发性多软骨炎（RP）的关节症状及其与其他临床表现和预后的关系。
对14例符合达米亚尼和莱文提出的RP诊断标准的患者进行研究。记录临床症状，并进行实验室和影像学检查。对1例患者进行了滑膜组织学检查。
12例患者有关节症状，累及外周关节（9例）、软骨肋关节（5例）或两者同时受累（2例）。外周关节炎是最常见的表现，有6例患者出现，而外周关节痛是3例患者唯一的关节表现。关节症状（关节痛、关节炎和肋软骨炎）的出现与其他部位软骨炎的出现无关，在关节受累与发病年龄、病程、发作次数或疾病严重程度之间未发现相关性，无论是从受累器官数量还是致命结局方面来看（p>0.05）。然而，当分别分析关节症状时，与仅有关节痛或软骨肋症状的患者相比，关节炎患者的病程更长（50个月对30个月）、受累器官更多（4.5对3.3）且预后更差。
关节症状在RP中很常见，但外周关节炎的存在与疾病广泛及预后较差相关。
