Chick embryos, obtained from the anterior portion of the magnum of the oviduct 60 to 80 min after the preceding egg had been laid, were cultured in vitro in small and large recipient eggshells until hatching. 2. Of 82 embryos cultured, 46.3% had survived to day 4 of incubation, and 19.5% survived to hatching. 3. The method for culturing embryos used in this experiment could facilitate research on the in vitro manipulation of early chick embryos.
