The cytological examination of body cavity effusions is a fast and technically simple procedure. The specificity of the method to diagnose a malignoma is high, and the sensitivity is sufficient. Round cell sarcomas and carcinomas exfoliate well, but other sarcomas can rarely be diagnosed cytologically in the body effusion. Inflammation and bacterial or mycotic infection of the hydrops are evident. Cytological examinations of body effusions of other etiologies are not so specific.
体腔积液的细胞学检查是一种快速且技术上简单的程序。该方法诊断恶性肿瘤的特异性高，敏感性也足够。圆形细胞肉瘤和癌易于脱落，但其他肉瘤在体腔积液中很少能通过细胞学诊断。积液的炎症以及细菌或真菌感染很明显。其他病因导致的体腔积液的细胞学检查特异性没那么高。
