Doppler velocimetry and early fetal haemodynamics.

Recent studies using combined transvaginal and transabdominal Doppler ultrasonography have demonstrated that fetal venous, cardiac and arterial flow velocity waveforms can be recorded as early as the late first trimester of pregnancy. Marked changes at all three levels have been described. An overview of the early fetal circulation is presented.
