Development of speech perception and speech production in a primary school-age child using Tactaid VII.

An 11-year-old, profoundly deaf boy was fitted with a Tactaid VII in 1993, and he has received fortnightly training sessions since. There have been significant and functional gains in speech perception, speech production, and speech-reading, particularly in the perception and production of spectral features. These changes and the assessment results obtained will be discussed in the paper.
