The main problems caused by acute bronchopneumopathy in the elderly patients are mentioned. The vulnerability of the elderly patient, the atypical clinical features, the risk of bacterial resistance and the relative frequency of aspiration pneumonia are stressed. The indications for hospitalization and the value of antipneumococcal vaccine, as well as the early takeover, at home, of some hospital antibiotherapies are described, and schemes of first intention antibiotherapy are presented.
