This study focuses on strategic planning in 15 general hospitals in the northwest, examining the relationship between organization-level strategic planning and operating margins of profit or loss and the permeation of organization-level strategic planning into the nursing division-level planning. A small positive relationship between strategic planning and operating margins was found. Permeation of organization-level strategic planning into the nursing division planning was found in 5 of the 15 hospitals.
