Abstract
A self-staffing system on an infant/toddler unit with widely fluctuating census has resulted in increased staff autonomy, schedule flexibility and nurse satisfaction. Staff agree unanimously that quality of care has improved greatly. In addition, early indications show the potential for significant cost savings.
