Gonococcal infection of the neovagina in a male-to-female transsexual.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES

To describe a case of asymptomatic gonococcal infection of the surgically constructed vagina of a male-to-female transsexual prostitute.

CONCLUSION

Although the stratified squamous epithelium that lines the neovagina is normally resistant to infection with Neisseria gonorrhoeae, this diagnosis should be considered in this population, particularly if working in the commercial sex industry.
