Placement of gold thioglucose-filled cannulas into various areas of the avian brain which have previously been shown to have an effect on food consumption did not result in any significant increases in food consumption or body weight gain. These results are contrary to those which have been reported for some mammals. These data also raise the question about the existence of a glucostatic food intake control mechanism in birds.
